I wrote the script on a laptop beside my dad’s hospice bed in my parents’ living room. Although it was the most painful time of my life, the writing was my escape, where I got to go to Rosalie’s world. August, the dashing hero, is very childlike and has all the makings of a great dad. Britt is the character I poured all of my cynicism into, as I struggled with the “whys” of my dad’s suffering. Fitz made me smile. And as for Rosalie … well, just like with Rosalie, God was present and gave me strength during that time. I really believe the script, and the completed film, is a gift from Him.

I love story, I love storytelling. The premise of “Is he or isn’t he real?” intrigued me. I am not an expert in mental health. Everything I learned about that came while researching the script. My hope is to start a conversation about mental health among believers. I know Christians who struggle with depression and disabilities, but I haven’t heard the topic addressed in the church.
